"Doula" – This Greek word has come to refer to “a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and just after childbirth” (Klaus, Kennell, and Klaus: The Doula Book).

Birth Doula

Thank you for considering me as your doula. It is a privilege each time I am asked to be part of the miracle of birth, or invited into your home postpartum. In my experience and research, I have found two major keys to a successful birth – education and a supportive birthing team.  I want you and your partner to feel empowered and supported to make the decisions that are right for you and your unique birth.
I understand that birth is a key life experience that the parents will remember all of their lives.
I provide emotional support, physical comfort measures, an objective viewpoint, and assistance in helping the mother or couple make informed decisions.
I perceive my role as one who nurtures and protects the woman’s memory of her birth experience.

When I met Ellen, I instantly knew that she was meant to be our doula, but I could not have imagined how profoundly she would change our lives. She was the ideal birthing companion.  [Our midwife] said having a doula was the best investment we could have made and I strongly agree with her.
If you want to feel empowered and proud of your birthing experience, hire Ellen. You won’t be sorry" – Jenna Gallanosa

We met Ellen a month after our twins were born and she has been helping me hold it together ever since! (Twins are now five months old).
Ellen steps right in and in just a couple hours at our house she can make me feel better! She has a knack for knowing what needs to be done and getting right to it. From advice on baby care, hands on baby care, toddler care and tidying our house and scattered belongings, she allows me to keep my head above water in this crazy and wonderful time in our lives. We are so grateful to have Ellen! – Elizabeth Thiel

Postpartum Doula

A postpartum doula’s duties can change depending on the needs of the family. As your doula, I will do whatever the new mother needs to enjoy and care for her new baby. The biggest role as a doula is to educate the family. I share information about the baby’s care requirements and development with the family. I also assist with your breastfeeding education if needed, and ensure the mother is fed, well hydrated and comfortable.
